Call airlines and ask for a reschedule. They accommodate students requests. My brother did the same last year and it worked perfectly for him. At least you can give a try calling airlines customer care .

We had booked with reschedule n cancellation option 72 hours prior without charges. Do u have that option ? Then u can cancel
