OINP application: what job location to list when your role is remote

Step-by-Step

If your job is fully remote and you're unsure what to enter as your job location on an OINP (Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program) application:

  1. List the location of your employer's registered office, not the city you happen to be physically working from. If the company is registered in Toronto but you work remotely from Waterloo, Toronto is generally the job location to declare.

  2. Cross-check against your work permit. Your job location should match whatever employment location is stated on your existing work permit, since OINP will compare your application against that document for consistency.

If there's a mismatch between where you live, where you work, and what's on your work permit, resolve it before submitting — inconsistencies here are a common source of extra scrutiny.

Dos, Don'ts & Tips

  • Do: Use your employer's registered office location as the job location, even if you personally work remotely from elsewhere.
  • Do: Make sure the job location on your OINP application matches the employment location listed on your work permit.
