A member applying to the Alberta AINP wasn't claiming Express Entry CRS points for their current job (only for a previous one), and wasn't sure whether to answer "yes" or "no" to the AINP question about currently working — worried that saying "yes" would require disclosing full employment details they'd rather not submit.
What other members' experience suggested:- Answering "no" (not currently working) when you are in fact employed is risky. One member who did this said it "worked" for them in the sense that it avoided the extra employment-detail questions, but noted that some applicants in similar situations later received an Additional Document Request (ADR) because the case officer wanted to know what the applicant is doing now.
- If you answer honestly that you are working, use a Letter of Explanation (LOE) to clarify why you aren't claiming points for that job — this lets you be transparent about your current employment without it being confused with the points you are claiming.
- You can prepare the LOE proactively, before an ADR is even issued, rather than waiting to be asked — this was suggested as a way to preempt questions from the case officer.
The practical takeaway: it's safer to answer the "currently working" question truthfully and use a Letter of Explanation to clarify that you aren't claiming points for that particular job, rather than answering "no" and risking an ADR (or a misrepresentation concern) if a case officer later finds a mismatch.
