Context: an Express Entry (FSW) file with AOR in Sep 2020 — the pandemic-era FSW backlog was extreme, so the delay itself is historical. The escalation options remain current. An applicant waiting 3.5+ years asked what can be done to expedite. The group's collective playbook:
- Keep IRCC informed via webform. If you travel out of your country or your circumstances change while the application is pending, notify IRCC through the webform rather than staying silent.
- Order GCMS notes. They show what stage your file is actually at and whether anything is flagged. One member reported that a similarly stuck family member's file started moving only after GCMS notes were ordered. Others found repeated orders showed no update — it's diagnostic, not a guaranteed accelerant.
- Contact a Member of Parliament. MPs can make status inquiries on your behalf. In this case the MP route produced only monthly "please wait" replies — set expectations accordingly, but it costs nothing.
- Expect generic replies for 'exceeds normal processing time' files. IRCC often answers only that some applications take longer, with no reason given. Persistence across all three channels (webform, GCMS, MP) is the realistic strategy; there is no formal expedite lever for standard PR files.
