If your PR card is taking longer than expected — for example after landing and after IRCC has requested resubmitted photos — group members shared two practical steps:
- Call IRCC directly to ask for a status update. Members reported better luck getting through around 3:30pm EST, presumably because call volumes are lower later in the day.
- Ask specifically about processing batches. When members called, agents were sometimes able to say which month's PR card applications were currently being processed, which gives a rough sense of where your file sits in the queue.
If only one family member on a joint application receives a photo resubmission request and others don't, that's not necessarily a problem — IRCC can process family members' cards on separate timelines. Keep an eye on each application individually rather than assuming they'll move together.
If you're approaching the 6-month mark with no card, calling IRCC to confirm your file is still active (rather than resubmitting a fresh application) is the recommended first step — a new application is not automatically required just because the card hasn't arrived yet.
