If you held two different job titles at the same employer (for example Software Engineer for 2.5 years, then Project Manager for 2.5 years) but both roles matched the same NOC code, the group's advice was to list the positions separately rather than merging them into one entry.
What group members advised:- List each designation as its own entry on your work history, even if the day-to-day responsibilities were largely the same between the two roles.
- Write the duties under each title separately. One member noted they were asked by IRCC to redo their work experience this way, since combining titles under one entry can confuse the reviewing officer about your actual career progression.
- If you are not claiming Canadian Experience Class (CEC) or Express Entry points for one of the two periods, some members felt it may not be strictly necessary to separate them — but separating is the safer default when in doubt.
Note that IRCC generally assesses your NOC eligibility based on the duties you performed, not just your job title, so keep your reference letters focused on describing the actual tasks under each designation.
