We are planning that I will go to Canada first and then my spouse can come after a few months but within the COPR validity. Is this allowed and can someone please point me to the right documentation for the same.

Shari Satch-Henry I believe this is written on the instructions that came with your copr. Didn't you receive instructions paper with it?

You can go first only if you are the primary applicant.
