I've read somewhere that if a company would like to hire someone on a closed work permit, instead of applying for a new one, they can bridge the current one and change the conditions on it. Also, I read that while waiting you can submit a letter to IRCC asking to allow you to work for the new role and they may approve it. How true is this? Thanks.

Can an employer just 'bridge' your closed work permit to a new role instead of applying fresh?

Well it definitely wasn’t this easy for me. A company has to go through the LMIA process with ESDC before the candidate can apply to IRCC. I guess that if your job is super on demand there is a program to skip the LMIA process but that’s just for a subset of jobs.

Get a new Lmia, apply for a new work permit and then raise a webform requesting IRCC from an interim work authorisation while the new work permit is being processed
