Hi Folks I recently returned to India ( as a part of my personal soft landing decision). Here are few observations i would like to share about my return journey. ( I wish to share my expereince. Some queries. So that there is more clarity on these topics.. ) 1) My return flight was through 'air france'.( Toronto > Paris > Mumbai). I had done the web checkin. Then During luggage checkin, the person asked me for my PR Card. I was little surprised. He said that Since my flight was having a layover in paris, If the traveller is a CANADA PR, then no transit visa is needed. Else, a transit visa is required. ! This was completely new and strange. This is FYI for all new travellers. But also a question comes in mind like : Was this only becuase the flight had layover in paris? I never heard of such a condition. Flying Canada to India with a European layover: why the airline may demand your PR card
Piyush Jain France is a schengen country. Same rules apply to all member countries like Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Swiss, etc. Pls refer to the official France government link above. Section 2 would apply to OP. Now a lot of people get away with this cz check in agents at airports sometimes miss it. But if you end up checking in with a knowledgeable gate agent, he will surely deny Yu boarding (been thru the experience)
Piyush Jain it may not make sense to you but every country has transit and layover rules. While US and Canada are the strictest, EU and UK have some rules in place and gulf countries are very relaxed. All these rules depend on what US/Canada visa you have in ur passport and how long is its validity. Pls refer to my below comment for more details
2. It makes complete sense because they wanna make sure you have transit rights/eligiblity and in this case i.e. PR CARD. Otherwise, not having a proper visa/permit, Airlines are heavily fined even for one instance because basically they check everything at Exit.
Shahrukh Shaikh but u dont need a transit visa unless u r leaving the visa free transit area. 100% U DONT NEED IT at paris airport
1. Transit visa is not required. 2. Checking PR card while on way to india has no sense. 3. They were too lazy.
Muhammad Maleyni Fall why would they check canadian pr card while u r travelling back to india?
Piyush Jain what about if you don’t have PR card yet but only COPR?
