Hi Everyone, I'm a Lead Data Scientist here in India having an experience around 10 years in the IT industry. Now that I have got a CoPR and am about to fly to Canada, I have a further set of questions opening up. I recently had a word with my friend who used to work with me, he was sent by Infosys 3 Years ago to Canada and he is PR now. He made a few statements that bother me a lot. Here are the following. A full-time job pays a lot less than a contractual job though there is a trade-off on Job security. He has around 12 years of experience as a .Net programmer and he earns 6.5K CAD post-tax which he states just covers his living expenses. In fact he doesn't have a car as it is a costly affair The split of expenses he mentioned is as below: 2k - rent, 1.5k groceries, bills + transportation 1k and he has around 2k to save. Given that his statements are true here are my following question

Is 6.5K CAD post-tax a livable salary in Canada? Members break down the budget
Who told you groceries 1.5k !?? … its usually 200$ per person and for two people 500$ should be enough. For transportation… if u r daily commuting then a TTC pass is best or if u r remote then 200-300$ for transportation unless you are booking uber daily.
6.5k is fairly a decent amount initially. Your house rent and grocery gets done within 2.5k easily (if not a lavish spender). About car, the insurance is quite expensive in Ontario.
