Visitor visa first, marriage in Canada, then spousal sponsorship — why you must disclose the relationship
Tashi Gomez it’s not the best plan to conceal the relationship. It might count as misrepresentation later when you are proving your relationship during the sponsorship stage. They’ll have questions as to why you claim you know each other for this and this long but hid this fact during the visitor visa application. Years ago, I had a boyfriend who lived in Canada, and when I was applying for a visitor visa, he wrote an invitation letter outlining
Your partner can apply for a visitor visa with an invitation letter from you, explaining your relationship and the intent to just visit and then return. There is still a chance they’ll refuse the visa though stating close ties in Canada and that the partner won’t go back. If it works out and your partner gets the visa, they can certainly come as a visitor and have a marriage in Canada, followed by spousal sponsorship.
Daria PakhomovaDaria Pakhomova thank you very much for your reply. Can he apply visit visa without mentioning the relationship.I.e like to visit Canada and then do a marriage post to the arrival ? The only reason im asking this is, as you mentioned, there is a chance to refuse visa due to close ties in Canada..
Jasvir Jas thank you very much for your reply Can he apply for a visit visa now(without mentioning any relationship) and marry in June at home country and then get him here on a visit visa and apply spousal sponsorship (convert visa)while he is here? Is it a better plan?
Tashi Gomez that’s not a good idea as you will be explaining your “development of relationship” in your spousal sponsorship. there should not be a mismatch in information that you share with IRCC during visitor visa and sponsorship application.
Daria Pakhomova one last question though. Once we get the visa, can we marry in our home country and then come to Canada on a visit visa and apply for spousal sponsorship?
Daria Pakhomova thank you very much. I will follow the same in that case.. really appreciated your reply..
