So, my friend who will finish his 2 years studies in Canada in December 2022 and might have to apply for PGWP immediately afterwards. However his passport will expire by October 2023. So he is a bit of a pickle here. If I am not wrong, we can only renew our passport maximum 7 months prior to the expiry date and not earlier than that. So, bu that he can only be eligible to renew his passport by April of 2023. However, since his course wraps up by December of 2022, he might have to apply for PGWP within 90 days (before April). So you see the kind of problem he is in here! So what are his options and what he can do here. Any expert advice or advice based on previous experience is highly appreciated.

I guess indian passports can be renewed as early as 3 years in prior to expiry...please verify it as I am not very sure...Also I've heard there is an option of short validity passports which u can get it even in your absence but with your immediate fam… See more
He should renew his passport before PGWP, otherwise the expiry date of his PGWP will be his passport's expiry date. And when it comes to this date, he will have to file paperwork to extend his PGWP. Very inconvenient!
He will get 3 year work permit but while stamping TRV it will be till 2023 . Once he renews his passport again give the new passport for trv stamping. My roommate had this same issue.
Indian passports can be renewed 1 year prior to expiry, so your friend can apply in oct 2022 for passport renewal , should take about 6 weeks to get the new passport
