[2023 PGWP Extension discussion] I believe many of you have received this email from IRCC "2023 Interim Work Authorization for PGWP". After reading thoroughly the 2 points (red arrow), I think that for those who want to maximize the length of time you can work legally in Canada, the optimal way to go is to apply for PGWP Extension through regular process (instead of the opt in option even if you are eligible for that) Under this process, you are allowed to work legally until May 31, 2024 (this varies based on your profile). Wait until Dec 31 2023 and apply for extension, your new work permit will be issued for up to 18 months from the date your application is approved. The only downside is you need to pay processing fee (around 150 CAD) while opt-in is free, but you get much longer duration than Opt-in path. Please correct me if I'm wrong. When we click on opt-in we can see the last point that states - you accept an extended PGWP of 18 months (this will be an extension to your valid WP)
$155 only if you’re exempt from paying OWP holder fee (no clear clarification on this from IRCC fir this years extension), else it would be $255.
Anyone applying after expiry of PGWP need to pay for restoration fee which is an extra of $200
