A 32-year-old with a study gap since 2011 was told by a consultant to pick a master's over a PGDM because of age-related rejection risk. Members pushed back on that framing:
- Age itself doesn't determine PGDM vs. master's approval odds. What matters is having a proper, well-documented gap justification and choosing a program that logically matches your prior experience and qualifications.
- Program choice does affect approval chances, but not because of age. Visa officers look for a coherent story — your credentials and years of experience should connect to the course you're applying for, whichever level it is.
- If you want a lower-friction option, look at extended/pathway programs — members pointed to the University of Manitoba and University of Winnipeg as examples of institutions offering extended education programs worth considering.
Rather than switching program levels purely to dodge a perceived age issue, focus your application on justifying the gap and demonstrating a clear fit between your background and the chosen program.
