Step-by-Step

Historical note: this thread is from the 2022 IRCC backlog (COVID, Afghanistan, then Ukraine processing surges, 2M+ pending files). Current SDS timelines differ.

An SDS applicant (filed 22 Jan 2022, medical updated 7 Apr) had waited 100+ days with no passport request.

  1. Raise one webform if you're well past posted processing times. Expect an auto-generated reply - one arrived after ~35 days.

  2. Don't keep re-raising webforms. Members said repeated webforms don't speed anything up at this stage.

  3. Understand the cause before assuming a problem. Members attributed the silence to IRCC diverting capacity to emergency cohorts; applicants from Dec-Feb were similarly stuck. Beyond one webform, the realistic answer was to wait.

Dos, Don'ts & Tips

  • Don't: Don't file multiple webforms for the same delayed application - one is enough.
  • Tip: Check whether a system-wide backlog explains your delay before assuming your file has a problem.
