For applicants worried that the mailing address on their GIC certificate doesn't match their passport:
- Don't panic about a mismatched address alone. Your GIC certificate includes your passport number, and that's the identifier visa officers primarily rely on to match the certificate to your application — an address discrepancy on its own is not typically treated as a red flag.
- Still get the address corrected if you can, before you submit. If you're able to update the address on the certificate ahead of filing, do it — banks issuing GICs for study permits are generally quick to process such corrections, so there's little downside to fixing it proactively.
- Prioritize matching your passport number over your address across all financial documents submitted with your study permit application, since that's the detail an officer is most likely to check.
This is general community experience, not official IRCC guidance — if in doubt, contact your GIC-issuing bank or an immigration consultant before submission.
