Adding a child after ITA when webforms go unanswered — where the update actually needs to go

Step-by-Step

If you need to add a child to your application after receiving your ITA and the 60-day document deadline is approaching without a webform response:

  1. Understand that the child isn't added through your Express Entry profile at all. Updates to your family composition at this stage don't go back into the online EE profile — that profile is essentially locked in once you've received the ITA.

  2. Add the child directly to your post-ITA application package instead. This is the correct channel for a family composition change after invitation, rather than repeatedly submitting webforms expecting a profile-level update.

  3. If the 60-day deadline is genuinely at risk, submit the updated application package with the child included as soon as possible, rather than continuing to wait on webform replies that address a different part of the process.

This distinction (EE profile vs. post-ITA application) is the main point of confusion in cases like this — knowing which one to update saves time otherwise lost waiting on the wrong channel.

Dos, Don'ts & Tips

  • Tip: A child (or other family member) added after ITA goes into the post-ITA application directly, not back into your Express Entry profile.
  • Don't: Don't keep resubmitting webforms expecting a profile update if the real fix is updating the post-ITA application package itself.
