An inland CEC applicant got married while their PR application was in process and shared how the status update and follow-up played out.
Note: this is a 2021-era file, so the specific waits are historical.- Report the marriage immediately via webform. The applicant raised a webform with the spouse's PR details and the marriage license. IRCC initially misclassified the spouse as an outland dependent and requested full documents — a phone call to IRCC got this sorted internally, after which only the spouse's PR details were needed and the marital status was updated within weeks.
- Use the dedicated PR Portal mailbox only if invited. Members shared the regional PR-portal email address, but its automated reply makes clear it is solely for clients IRCC has invited to use the PR Portal for confirmation — emailing it earlier won't help.
- Phone is the general-purpose channel. For status checks at other stages, members used the IRCC call centre (1-888-242-2100).
- Expect classification hiccups after life changes. The recurring theme: after a mid-application change (marriage, new dependent), watch for IRCC processing it under the wrong category and call promptly to correct it rather than complying with a mistaken document request.
